The country's only shopping festival is coming to the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Need I say more? From August 24 – September 6, celebrity appearances, fashion shows, culinary events, and concerts will be taking over the district's 460 stores, 275 restaurants and 60 hotels. Oh, and how can I not mention that astrologer Sylvia Friedman will be there to dress shoppers in styles that align with their Zodiac sign. I mean... what?
Alright, so, who's taking me to Chicago? Because I've got my wardrobe ready to go...
I hate to already start talking about fall, but I can't help it. Fall is my favorite season for clothes shopping. Maybe it's all those years of back-to-school shopping that ingrained my love getting a whole new wardrobe once the weather gets breezy. And maybe it's my new adult self talking, but I am obsessed with the neutral-edgy-classy style of rag & bone.
I had heard of rag & bone before, but never paid them much attention. But then I read an editorial in some magazine -- Glamour, maybe? -- that featured Schmidt from Fox's New Girl. He said that every woman needs a rag & bone jacket because his wife owned a few. They fit her so perfectly, he said, that he wished she would wear one everyday. Of course, I take Schmidt's advice seriously, and a new fashion-love was born.
All these weeks I've been writing my "Future Friday" posts, my idea of how my life would look if I ever became an adult. Well, phase 1 has been deployed: I now have a full-time, real-person, grown-up job. So, instead of this week's Future Friday post being inspired by lofty dreams, it's now inspired by real life. Too bad "Present Friday" doesn't have quite the same ring.
So now that I'm official (as of Monday), I feel like I need a briefcase. And maybe some heels. And I should probably start dressing like a professional (we'll just ignore the fact that I'm wearing jeggings today). I'm not really sure how to begin -- maybe I need to raid a J. Crew?
So, my dear friend and her boyfriend are taking a fall excursion to Germany and Amsterdam, and she asked me if I would come to her rescue and recommend a lightweight, packable jacket since she was having difficulty finding one. And I've watched enough of HGTV's House Hunters International to know that Amsterdam is a place I'd love to visit. Canals and bicycles? Yes, please.
When my friend asked me about fall jackets, I had just spent my weekend forcing my boyfriend to watch 2 hours of HBO's Girls episodes with me. I'm not going to go on a rant about how much I love that show and how it's the new Sex and the City for my generation, blah blah -- even though it is. And even though my boyfriend made me turn it off after episode #4 and put on Game of Thrones to "get rid of some this feminine energy," as he put it, he did admit to liking it. So what does this have to do with fall jackets? Well, in the last episode we watched, Marnie goes over to her (ex)-boyfriend's apartment sporting a very adorable trench coat, and I thought to myself, "I haven't seen a 20-something in a trench coat in quite awhile... I like it."
Yes, all that backstory for one simple (but important) article of clothing.
